I like that quote by Jim Elliot. The key is to leave the choice to God and not take matters into our own hands...

I think it can be said that many of the revered men and women in the Bible followed God's leading... And took matters into their own hands. Abraham, Ruth... Even Jesus was criticized for thinking on his own and following God's leading. :) Each situation is so different from the other. But I know this: God doesn't expect His children to sit around waiting for his call.

True, but if "doing something" goes against the common sense God gave you or goes against Biblical wisdom or the advice of ALL your family and friends... I'd be hesitant to take matters into my own hands.
Abraham was clearly led by God; no doubt about that.
And they sought counsel! I'm of the belief that if it's a big step in life, always seek Godly counsel, get opinions and advice. It certainly can't hurt :)

Hm.. Well, it depends on the definition of common sense and God's will being the same as our parents' will. I believe God's will can most definitely be different than our parents' will.

How are you doing these days? :)

Common sense as in the sense God gave us :)
If parents are following God's will for their lives and listening to Him, then I believe they will only want His will for their children. That has proven to be true in my life, anyway. I feel God has called me to photography and my parents support my ambitions and goals in that direction. I even did a portrait shoot today! :) I love doing what I love :) (and it doesn't hurt to get paid for it too!)
Embracing each day and counting my blessings for all the love in my life, right now. God has given me an amazing family and wonderful supportive friends from all walks of life. What can I say except that I am blessed beyond what I'd ever thought or imagined... but I know it's true now.

While I know we don't agree in spirit or definition, it doesn't matter. All I want for you is true happiness (not, I'm better, I'm happier, I'm more blessed) and peace that comes from God alone!!

It's always good to move on and discover things about yourself! Congratulations on your photography. :)
